ISSUES

Carolina Kickoff
  • Michael plans to start an annual outdoor concert festival and pep rally called "Carolina Kickoff."

  • This event will be held the Friday prior to the first home football game of 2016 and is intended to kick off a new school year and Gamecock football season.

  • Carolina Kickoff will be a showcase of live music and entertainment for every student at USC

  • The event will feature at least one headlining band/artist and several other musicians

  • There will be opportunities for student organizations (Greek, academic, multicultural, philanthropic, etc.), and local businesses to promote themselves at the event.

MyOffCampus
  • MyOffCampus will be a new online tool for the 96% of USC students who live off campus following their freshman year.

  • This will be a mobile app and extended portal available to students through my.sc.edu.

  • Students will be able to compare off-campus housing options and read student-written reviews from past tenants before signing a lease.

  • MyOffCampus is already in the works by a team of USC student developers. The framework for the site was inspired by RateMyProfessor.com, however with landlords and housing complexes instead of professors.

  • This will enhance the experience of USC students living off campus, prevent potential issues, and hold Columbia landlords accountable to their college tenants.

Reformed Gameday Experience
  • Michael's goal is to bring more student input into the Gamecock gameday experience.

  • He aims to make Saturdays at Williams Brice Stadium more enjoyable for students by putting their ideas into action, whether it be through student discounts on concessions, better music, or the ability to exit and re-enter the stadium.

"It's On Us" Campaign
  • Michael plans to partner with the "It's On Us" campaign to promote sexual abuse prevention and awareness at USC.

  • "It's On Us" is a national campaign, partnered with more than 250 universities, celebrities, television networks, and companies.

  • Bringing this campaign to USC will help to identify key problems on and off campus, prevent sexual abuse, and help the school respond effectively when a student is assaulted.

  • "It's On Us" aims to fundamentally shift the way we think about sexual assault, by inspiring everyone to see it as their responsibility to do something, big or small, to prevent it.

House of Delegates

  • There are too many students at USC who have given up on getting involved on our campus.

  • A House of Delegates would include representation from every student organization.

  • Number of representatives based on number of students in the organization.

  • The House of Delegates would be managed by the cabinet and would meet bi-weekly with executive officers to discuss the needs, concerns, and ideas of organizations.

  • This will make the funding process for our student government more streamlined, and increases the scope of Student Government to reach more students.
